This issue of X-OLOGY Magazine marks our seventh year producing a publication focused on Southeast Michigan’s innovations in a variety of tech sectors and the people and companies behind those innovations.
Our winter issue takes a close look at the state of the security sector as writer Mike Brennan covers everything from issues of personal mobile devices in the workplace and the growing threats to our nation’s infrastructure, to the safety of cloud computing, the Michigan Cyber Range and the region’s well-regarded defense industry.
In a series of security-focused articles, you’ll meet the people in the state who are playing vital roles in protecting cyber space and our physical space. And you’ll read about the companies behind the technologies designed to protect information and individuals.
Our Business Profile features the physical aspect of security with a focus on General Dynamics Land Systems’ Maneuver Collaboration Center, a virtual collaborative environment that promotes improvements to the vehicles used in battle.
X-OLOGY’s People Profiles feature two leaders in the security industry: Daniel Lohrmann is Michigan’s first chief security officer, working to protect state employees, the government’s infrastructure and information related to Michigan citizens from a wide variety of threats, including some 187,000 cyber attacks every day. Phil Bertolini is Oakland County’s deputy county executive and chief information officer, overseeing all of the county’s technology initiatives, protecting citizens from cyber attacks on their personal information and supporting public safety across Southeast Michigan.
Our Education Kaleidoscope presents Lawrence Technological University’s transportation design program. Recognized as one of the top eight automotive design programs in the U.S., it draws talented students from around the world to its Southfield, MI, campus.
Finally, our Lifestyle feature might just help you beat the winter blues by giving you ideas for getaways around the state that’ll keep you inside and warm, including plays, concerts, art exhibits, museums and more. Just hop in the car and go discover a new Michigan adventure.
